The Sked: THURSDAY RATINGS May 3

>As we enter the second week of the May Sweep, FOX and ABC had very similar ratings to last week, while CBS popped up with a nice increase for Big Bang Theory.  On NBC, The Office was up a bit from last week, but NBC stayed at the same overall nightly number as last week with a decline from Awake (now a 0.7 rating, close to The CW’s garden variety Secret Circle, which did a 0.6 rating at 9 pm).

             Nightly Adult 18-49 Rating
Thursday     FOX    NBC    CBS    ABC
05.03.2012   3.0    1.4    2.9    2.1   THIS WEEK
04.26.2012   3.0    1.4    2.6    2.2   LAST WEEK
05.05.2011   4.8    2.0    2.6    2.4   LAST YEAR

FOX is on track to match last week’s 3.0 rating with Adults 18-49 from 8-10 pm.  American Idol should go up to a 4.0 rating in the official nationals from its current 3.9 fast national rating, while we expect Touch to decline to a 2.0 rating from the preliminary 2.1 rating in the fast nationals.  Last year on this night, FOX averaged a 4.8 rating from 8-10 pm: American Idol (6.3) and Bones (3.2).

                Season        Past  Six  Weeks
FOX Thu        High Low  3.29 4.05 4.12 4.19 4.26 5.03
X Factor       4.3  2.8
American Idol  5.7  3.9  4.4  3.9  4.3  4.0  4.0  3.9*

Bones          3.3  2.4
The Finder     2.8  1.7

CBS was up from last week, making a bid to tie FOX for first place on the night.  Unless it gets some incredibly favorable rounding in the official nationals later this afternoon, The Eye will probably fall just short.  But still a good night, especially for Big Bang Theory which is a 4.6 rating in the fast nationals (most likely a 4.7 in the official nationals and clearly the highest rated broadcast program on the night and up five or six tenths of a rating point in one week).  The rest of the line up was up more moderately (one or two tenths) from last week’s season lows.  Last year on this night: Big Bang Theory (3.2), Rules of Engagement (2.2), CSI (2.3) and The Mentalist (2.7).

CBS Thu         High Low  3.29 4.05 4.12 4.19 4.26 5.03

Mentalist       3.0  2.2  2.7  2.4       1.5R 2.2  2.4*

ABC had reliable performances from Grey’s Anatomy (3.2 in the fast nationals, probably a 3.3 in the official nationals like the previous two weeks) and Scandal (2.1 in the fast nationals, likely a 2.0 in the official nationals as it has done for its five straight weeks on the air).  But Missing is just falling into irrelevance, down to a 1.1 rating and falling into a tie with The CW (Vampire Diaries at 8 pm).  Last year on this night: Wipeout (1.4), Grey’s Anatomy (3.5) and Private Practice (2.3).

NBC matched last week’s weak fourth place rating (1.4 from 8-11 pm).  An uptick from The Office (up two tenths from last week’s season low) was erased by declines in 30 Rock (back to a filmed episode after last week’s live telecast) and Awake (now a 0.7 rating from 10-11 pm).  Last year on this night: Community (1.5), The Office repeat (1.1), The Office (3.5), Parks & Recreation (2.5), 30 Rock (2.1) and Outsourced (1.5).
