Anyone watching network television last night needs to get an HBO subscription and find AMC on their channel guides, because there were stunning episodes of Mad Men and Game of Thrones on hand, even by those series’ remarkable standards (as well as the best-so-far half-hours of Girls and Veep). But yes, test patterns programming was available on broadcast TV too:
FOX: The night’s dominant winner with NASCAR, which managed over a 2 rating.
NBC: The series finale of HARRY’S LAW snuck onto the schedule to an appropriate 0.7 or so, but the network’s only big hour was 10PM, where the rerun of AMERICA’S GOT TALENT‘s last hour went over a 1.0 and beat procedural reruns on ABC and CBS.
ABC: A night of reruns (AMERICA’S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS, DUETS, ROOKIE BLUE) were all in the 0.6-0.7 niche.
CBS: Its reruns early in the night were probably hurt by NASCAR and only managed 0.4-0.5, but the CSI MIAMI rerun was up slightly (although well below NBC) at 10PM.
Tonight, again, the interesting programming is on cable, where HBO airs Philip Kaufman’s epic HEMINGWAY & GELHORN biography with Nicole Kidman and Clive Owen, and History has its first scripted programming, the miniseries HATFIELDS & MCCOYS, with Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton. CBS and FOX are in reruns, while NBC and ABC have new AMERICA’S GOT TALENT, AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR and THE BACHELORETTE for those so inclined.

Sunday preliminary broadcast ratings: 60 Minutes and the CBS 7:00-7:30 half hour specifically inflated by 10 minutes of the end of Masters coverage from 7:00-7:10 pm (mostly the monumentally awkward and amazingly tense ceremony in “Butler Cabin,” where the Green Jacket is awarded).
