It has to be demoralizing for programmers to watch 3 networks’ worth of original summer programming get soundly beaten by a sitcom rerun.
NBC: The new mystical/medical soap SAVING HOPE flatlined with a 0.7. Believers in glasses half-full can note that this did tie the network’s high number on the night, with ROCK CENTER.
FOX: The premiere of THE CHOICE didn’t set Nielsen boxes on fire with a 1.8, but that was at least enough to win its hour. Preceding that, TAKE ME OUT debuted with a 1.3.
ABC: DUETS fell again, to an increasingly terrible 1.2 over 2 hours. The series seems to be more of a variety show than a competition, considering that it took 6 hours to get to the first elimination, and apparently that’s not working for viewers. The lowered lead-in didn’t help ROOKIE BLUE, which fell a bit to 1.3.
CBS: THE BIG BANG THEORY had by far the highest number of the night with 2.1, and reruns of 2 BROKE GIRLS and THE MENTALIST won their slots as well, with PERSON OF INTEREST a close 2d place to FOX at 9PM.
CW: The second episode of BREAKING POINTE joined a VAMPIRE DIARIES repeat at near invisibility with 0.2.
Tonight is a festival of reruns everywhere, except for a new DATELINE on NBC. Since it’s also the first night in a while without any basketball or hockey playoffs, it may be a good evening to see Prometheus or catch up with The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
