Zooey Deschanel in FOX’s New Girl |
The second Tuesday of the new season was relatively surprise-free. FOX’s New Girl established itself as the hit of the new season, and CBS turned in a reliable performance thanks to the NCIS pair, although Unforgettable looks shaky at best. NBC and ABC are floundering thanks to aging reality franchises.
FOX’s New Girl continues to be the toast of the new season, turning in a 4.4 Adult 18-49 rating in its second week (down only 0.4 of a rating point from its strong premiere). New Girl built a solid 22% from its Glee lead-in (3.6 rating), while Raising Hope ended the night by drifting down to a still respectable 2.9 rating. FOX won the night overall with a 3.6 rating. On this night one year ago (9.28.2010), FOX won the night with a 4.2 rating. Glee hit a 5.9 rating at 8 pm, while Raising Hope did a very decent 3.1 and Running Wilde ended the night with a thud (1.9 rating). So FOX is down year to year (especially because of the cooling Glee), but the network remains the tallest midget on the night, thanks to New Girl.
CBS placed second last night with a 3.4 demo rating. NCIS scored a 4.2 in its second outing (down only 0.1 from last week), NCIS: LA nabbed a 3.5 (also down only 0.1 from last week), and Unforgettable again won the 10 pm time period with a 2.5 (although it was down a disturbing 0.4 from its debut). On the second Tuesday of the season last year, CBS finished in second place with an identical 3.4 rating for the night. NCIS set the table with a 4.1 rating, followed by NCIS: Los Angeles at a 3.7 rating and The Good Wife at a 2.5 rating.
ABC’s Tuesday has really fallen apart. The 8 pm Dancing recap show is a disaster at a 1.8 rating, and the live results show at 9 pm is a mediocre 2.8 rating (despite the “controversy” about Nancy Grace’s wardrobe malfunction…..yikes). Body of Proof is getting colder — a 1.9 rating, which sets a series low. ABC averaged a 2.2 on the second Tuesday of the season. A year ago on this night, ABC averaged a 3.0 rating for the night, good for third place. No Ordinary Family premiered with a 3.2 rating, Dancing with the Stars Results hit a 3.8, and Detroit 187‘s second episode ended the night on a sour night with a 2.1 rating.
On The CW, the third week of 90210 and Ringer have settled in at a 0.8 and 0.9 rating, respectively. Nothing for the other networks to worry about.
Season to date (the first nine nights of the young season), FOX and CBS remain in a tight battle for #1. FOX is averaging a 3.33, followed closely by 3.28 for CBS. ABC is in third with a 2.75, and NBC is far behind with a 2.45. Playing in a different universe, The CW is averaging 0.72 season to date.
