NETWORK UPDATE:  The 8PM rerun of NEW GIRL and the FLASH rerun each lost 0.1 in final numbers.

CABLE HIGHLIGHTS:  The most interesting news of the day, and one that reflects just how much the “television” business has changed and the different ways ratings have to be judged, is Syfy’s renewal of THE EXPANSE despite last night’s 0.17 rating, which was up 0.05 from last week but still a seemingly terrible number for an expensive piece of programming.  (And an old-skewing one as well.)  Syfy and its co-producer Alcon don’t make their data about international sales and on-demand/streaming publicly available, but clearly they have an economic model that supports bringing the show back.  The decision reinforces the idea that although ratings information is valuable, it tells the story of a much less critical part of the revenue stream than used to be the case, even recently.

ESPN’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL bowl games have no such issue, and the network easily won the cable night with primetime games at 1.57/1.18, with an afternoon game at 0.42.  History’s CURSE OF OAK ISLAND slipped 0.05 to 0.95, and HUNTING HITLER ticked up to 0.60.  On Bravo, REAL HOUSEWIVES OF BEVERLY HILLS edged up 0.03 to 0.67, and GIRLFRIENDS GUIDE TO DIVORCE was similarly up 0.02 to 0.26.  Discovery’s MOONSHINERS dropped 0.15 to 0.55.  A&E’s MARRIED AT FIRST SIGHT climbed 0.04 to 0.50, and BORN THIS WAY rose 0.09 to 0.39.  Food Network’s CHOPPED JR gained 0.06 to 0.49.  On TLC, KATE PLUS 8 jumped 0.16 to 0.40, 7 LITTLE JOHNSTONS was up 0.13 to 0.37, and JILL & JESSA gained 0.02 to 0.27.  BET’s BEST OF 2015 special was at 0.18.
