SHOWBUZZDAILY’s Saturday Cable Originals and Top 25 Sunday Cable Originals: 8.24.2014

SATURDAY CABLE:  The season premiere of DOCTOR WHO on BBCAmerica scored 0.85 in 18-49s, with 2.2M total viewers.  The premiere of INTRUDERS, airing afterward, lost most of that lead-in with 0.23/796K.  The DOCTOR WHO AFTERSHOW slipped some more to 0.17/408K.  Elsewhere, OUTLANDER (Starz) got older with its 3rd episode, falling 0.06 in 18-49s to 0.21, but gaining about 100k viewers to just over 1M.  On AMC, HELL ON WHEELS, on the other hand, got younger, rising 0.09 in 18-49s to 0.45, while losing about 100K viewers to 2.1M.

SUNDAY NETWORK UPDATE:  SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL adjusted up to 2.1 in final numbers (DATELINE correspondingly lost 0.3), while as expected, FOX’s “AMERICAN DAD” rating turned out to be an afternoon football overrun number.  WIPEOUT and RISING STAR each gained 0.1 to 0.8/1.0.

Below are Sunday’s Top 25 cable originals ratings in key demos, as well as a few additional, lower-rated series.  If you’d like any additions to that list, let us know.  Some additional detail and context follow the chart.  NOTE: technical issues kept it off the chart, but the 2014 VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS on MTV at 9:00 pm was actually the night’s highest-rated cable telecast: 4.16 adult 18-49 rating, 7.31 female 12-34 rating, 5.55 adult 18-34 rating, 3.03 adult 25-54 rating, 0.94 men 50+ rating, and 8,257,000 total viewers 2+.  That was down from a 5.2 rating in 18-49s and 10.06M total viewers last year.  The VMA PRE-SHOW was also down, with 1.86/3.78M this year compared to 2.3/4.63M last year.  A re-airing of the AWARDS brought in an additional 1.25 18-49 rating and 2.25M total viewers.

Top 25 Cable SUN Aug 24 2014

The season finale of TRUE BLOOD (HBO) was up a quarter of a point from last week to 2.09, although that was down from last season’s 2.3 finale.  THE LEFTOVERS was up 0.14 to a new high 0.94.  It’ll be interesting to see how that show’s season finale fares after taking Labor Day weekend off and airing without a TRUE BLOOD lead-in the following week.  The season finale of THE LAST SHIP (TNT) was exactly even with last week at 1.01, while FALLING SKIES rose 0.05 to 0.70.  On Showtime, RAY DONOVAN was very steady at 0.47, and MASTERS OF SEX ROSE 0.03 to 0.28.  On Lifetime, WITCHES OF EAST END barely moved at 0.46, and THE LOTTERY fell 0.04 to 0.18.  Preceding the VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS on MTV, a special TEEN WOLF was on target with last Monday’s result at 0.68.  MANHATTAN (WGNAmerica) was low but stable at 0.07.  On the unscripted side, both MOUNTAIN MEN (History) and REAL HOUSEWIVES (Bravo) were down a bit at 0.77 and 0.76.  NAKED AND AFRAID (Discovery) got walloped, down 0.25 to 0.71.  UFC FIGHT NIGHT on Fox Sports 1 had a 0.08 rating in 18-49s, and 264K total viewers.
