AMERICAN IDOL began its farewell.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
FOX: AMERICAN IDOL aired the first half of its finale with a 2.2 that was 0.1 higher than last Thursday’s score. The bigger news, though, may have been the decline in EMPIRE, which despite a much stronger lead-in than it had last Wednesday from ROSEWOOD, still sank 0.6 to a 4.2 that was one of its lowest ratings thus far. It’s still a huge hit, of course, but now looking more mortal.
ABC: Our chart is wrong at long last correct, and ABC actually aired new sitcom episodes last night after reruns last week. THE MIDDLE held at 1.7, but THE GOLDBERGS was down 0.2 from 2 weeks ago to 1.8. MODERN FAMILY was down 0.2 to a series-low 2.2, and BLACK-ISH fell 0.3 to 1.6. NASHVILLE, which did air a new episode last week, was up 0.1 to 1.0.
NBC: HEARTBEAT is slowing, down 0.2 from last week to a sub-MYSTERIES OF LAURA 0.7. The rest of the evening was indeed reruns, twin 0.8s.
CBS: SURVIVOR slipped 0.1 to 1.9. The network aired back-to-back CRIMINAL MINDS: BEYOND BORDERS episodes, both at 1.2, which represented a 0.6 drop from last week’s mothership rating at 9PM, and a 0.1 dip at 10PM.
CW: ARROW unveiled a major plot twist last night, but it’s now taking 3 weeks off, so we’ll see how much impact that has when it returns. As for last night, it was down 0.1 to 0.8, while SUPERNATURAL was up 0.1 to 0.7.
Tonight’s main event, of course, is the series finale of AMERICAN IDOL. CBS has the season premiere of THE ODD COUPLE airing against it.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
