>A Friday night to forget last night to forget as the audience has better things to do (shop, see a movie, visit family, or basically anything else) than watch lame animated specials or Hollywood movies on television with more than a dozen commercial breaks.

FOX did the “best” Friday night with Iron Man from 8:00-10:30 (1.3 rating).  ABC was in second with Shrek the Third (1.1 rating) and 20/20 (1.2).  NBC also tried the theatrical movie route with National Treasure: Book of Secrets (generating a 1.0 rating).

CBS tried to create some holiday magic with new animated specials, but Hoops & Yoyo Ruin Christmas (0.8) and Elf on the Shelf: An Elf’s Story (1.0) did not do the trick.  Similarly, on The CW, Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer (0.5) and Olive, the Other Reindeer (0.3) prove that if a special is not from Rankin-Bass or Charles Schultz, it stands little chance of becoming a classic.
