The oldest show of the night was its highest-rated.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
ABC: GREY’S ANATOMY concluded a remarkable 12th season run with a 2.3 season finale. That was up 0.2 from last week, and even more notably up 0.1 from the 2015 finale. The 2-hour season finale of THE CATCH didn’t give ABC anything to be happy about, down 0.1 from last week to 0.9.
NBC: In fairness to THE BLACKLIST, the lead-in for its season finale was even worse than last year’s (0.8 for a SVU rerun), with STRONG down 0.1 from last week to 0.6. Nevertheless, the BLACKLIST trajectory continues to be down, its 1.3 steady with last week but down 0.2 from last year’s finale. GAME OF SILENCE closed out the night quietly, steady at 0.7.
CW: LEGENDS OF TOMORROW finished an unimpressive first season by holding last week’s 0.7. THE 100’s season finale was up 0.1 from last week to 0.5, at least in preliminary numbers, which was also up 0.1 from the 2015 finale (on a Wednesday).
CBS: After a 1.7 BIG BANG THEORY rerun, the 8:30PM ODD COUPLE was down 0.1 from last week to 1.5 (that one, of course, had the advantage of following the BIG BANG season finale). MOM’s season finale was down 0.1 from last week to 1.7, which was also down 0.3 from last season’s finale. Another ODD COUPLE episode followed at 1.4, and then RUSH HOUR remained at 0.9.
FOX: The only network not joining in the finale race last night didn’t have much to show for it, as BONES (0.8) and AMERICAN GRIT (0.6) stayed at last week’s numbers.
Tonight’s finales include THE ORIGINALS, 2 hours of GRIMM, and the series finale of Cinemax’s BANSHEE.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
