For the second night in a row, a sports-related event underperformed.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
ABC: THE ESPYS fell 0.6 from last year’s edition (also on ABC) to 1.6. That made it just the #3 show of the night.
NBC: There was stronger competition for the ESPYS this year, as AMERICA’S GOT TALENT aired a new episode at 2.3 rather than a 1.2 clip show. The episode was also up 0.5 from last week’s own clip show. At 10PM, THE NIGHT SHIFT is currently up 0.2 to 1.3.
CBS: BIG BROTHER fell 0.2 to 1.7. After a 0.8 CRIMINAL MINDS rerun, AMERICAN GOTHIC lost 0.1 to 0.5.
FOX: MASTERCHEF dropped 0.2 to 1.1, but WAYWARD PINES gained 0.1 to 0.8.
CW: The season premiere of PENN & TELLER: FOOL US was at 0.4, the same as both the original and rerun episodes of WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY.
ABC (as well as ESPN and Freeform) air a special town hall broadcast at 8PM tonight entitled THE PRESIDENT AND THE PEOPLE: RACE IN AMERICA.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
