WORLDWIDE STUDIO SCORECARD. Updated look at 2016 by studio.
Warner Brothers moved into second place, pushing Fox into third place. This is the first change in the studio rankings in weeks, thanks mostly to continued overseas strength from Suicide Squad and the strong first 10 days of Sully.
YEAR TO DATE BOX OFFICE. Looking at North American box office, 2016 to date is now +4% above last year and still +5% above the average for this point the past four years ($7.243 billion). Over the same period, Hollywood films have grossed almost $19.4 billion worldwide when we add overseas box office (that’s +1% ahead of the comparable worldwide box office last year at this stage and ahead of 2014 by +7%).
A reminder: we define the start of each year as the first Monday after New Year’s Day, and our year ends on the Sunday after New Year’s Day the following calendar year. (The most recent week’s numbers are based on weekend estimates, which are usually at worst a couple of percentage points off from the final weekend tallies.)
