UPDATE: Game 1 of the 2016 World Series averaged just under 19.4 million viewers 2+ live+same day in the official nationals, second only to 2009 (Phillies-Yankees) in the last decade (and just narrowly behind it). With the key sales demographics, the game is also well above average, generally ranking #3 among Game 1 telecasts since 2006, behind only 2007 and 2009. The older audience of men 50+ was relatively high, pushing the median age of the Game 1 audience to 53.2 years, among the highest in recent years, however.
In the preliminary affiliate-based nationals, Game 1 of the 2016 World Series (Cleveland Indians defeating the Chicago Cubs 6-0) averaged 18.7 million persons 2+ and a 5.4 persons 18-49 rating live+same day. Normally, World Series ratings do not change significantly in the official nationals from the early preliminary nationals (unlike other live-to-all-time-zone telecasts such as the NFL and major awards shows), so any adjustment later today should be minimal. The 2016 World Series is off to a very good start, on pace to be the #2 Game 1 in the past decade among total viewers 2+ and #3 among 18-49 year-olds. This chart will be updated later today when the nationals for Tuesday are available.
