The WORLD SERIES more than quadrupled the next-highest score of the night.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis follows the chart.
FOX: Normally, the total viewer (persons 2+) audience for Game 3 of the WORLD SERIES is -15% below the average of Games 1-2, which are not played on the less-viewed Friday or Saturday nights as Game 3 has been generally in the last decade. Last night’s Game 3 averaged 17,684,000 P2+ live+same day in the preliminary fast affiliate numbers for 8-11 pm ET, only -4% below the 18,382,000 average for Games 1-2. Similarly, the 4.7 P18-49 rating in the preliminary numbers is -9% below the Game 1-2 average (5.2), much better than the more normal -20% drop for Game 3. Keep in mind the Game 3 numbers very likely will go up in the official nationals on Monday when the post 11 pm portion of the game is included, a 1-0 surprise win by the Indians that was close from the first pitch to the last. In addition, that preliminary 4.7 in 18-49s is a huge 1.6 higher than 2015’s Game 3.
CBS: MACGYVER dropped 0.1 to 1.0, and HAWAII 5-0 was down 0.2 to 1.0, but BLUE BLOODS was steady at 1.1.
ABC: This year’s run of IT’S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN fell 0.7 from 2015 to 1.0, but that airing was on a Thursday. SHARK TANK (1.1) and 20/20 (0.7) were each down 0.2 from last week.
CW: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND held last week’s season premiere numbers, respectively 0.4 and 0.2.
NBC: CAUGHT ON CAMERA remained at 0.6, and DATELINE fell 0.2 to 0.8.
Game 4 of the WORLD SERIES will air tonight against COLLEGE FOOTBALL on ABC. On Sunday, the WORLD SERIES continues, this time against SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL on NBC. In addition, FX has the season finale of THE STRAIN.
