AMERICAN HORROR STORY returned last night with a different storyline, setting and cast, and also brought along some new viewers to scare. Last night’s Season 2 debut had what should end up as a 2.0 18-49 rating, considerably up from the 1.7 it earned for last season’s finale, and enough to beat or at least tie 2 of the 3 broadcast networks in the hour (only CSI was ahead with 2.4, while Nashville is currently tied with 2.0). The total viewer number was similarly impressive with 3.85M, another considerable increase from the 3.2M who watched the Season 1 finale. The show is notably young-skewing, with roughly two-thirds of its viewers under 50.
Those numbers don’t approach the gaudy triumph of AMC’s Walking Dead premiere, and they put Horror Story slightly behind Sons of Anarchy for FX bragging rights (that show had a 2.2 rating in 18-49s and 4M viewers on Tuesday), but they’re still excellent, and one can expect a Season 3 renewal to be announced quickly.
