As usual, the late afternoon (4:30 pm) game was the highest-rated of the four Sunday NFL time periods (a 14.2 HH rating on CBS  in the 56 metedred-markets, mostly Pittsburgh at Baltimore).  However, the single game on FOX averaged a 13.5 HH rating (a combination of Minnesota at Green Bay at 1 pm and Tampa Bay at Denver at 4 pm), putting it in a tie with the metered market rating for the prime time game on NBC (Philadelphia at Dallas).  The early CBS game at 1 pm (mostly New England at Miami) was the lowest-rated of the four time periods — a still formidable 11.5 HH rating.

This week Pittsburgh delivered the biggest ratings for their team’s game: a 47.8 HH rating, almost one in two homes in the Steel town watching the game.  Milwaukee (for the Packers) and Baltimore (for the Ravens) were not far behind at 43.5 and 42.0 HH ratings, respectively.  Indianapolis, Minneapolis and Boston also rated above a 35 rating for their team’s games.  In the wake of the murder-suicide in Kansas City, ratings for the Chiefs game were a strong 30.0 HH rating, although that is down from the last few weeks.

SATURDAY COLLEGE FOOTBALL.  Only one game mattered Saturday in the college ranks, and that was the SEC Championship game on CBS — a mammoth 10.0 rating and 21 HH share, up from a 7.4 rating / 15 share for last year’s SEC Championship between LSU and Georgia.  Everything else struggled in the 1-3 rating range.
