NETWORK FINALS:  There were no changes from the preliminary ratings for Sunday’s broadcast shows.

CABLE HIGHLIGHTS:  Amazingly, the Season 7 premiere of HBO’s GAME OF THRONES was its highest-rated episode ever–and it wasn’t close.  At 4.71, it was up 0.63 from the Season 6 premiere, and up 0.36 from the Season 6 finale (its previous high).  This is in addition to record-breaking viewership on a streaming basis.  GAME OF THRONES is so big that its 10PM rerun was the #2 show of the night at 1.07.  It’s also worth remembering that even at these numbers, only one-third of US households subscribe to HBO, which means that within its universe, the rating was something like a 14–not far below the 15.4 for this year’s primetime AFC Championship game.

What may be more surprising is that the gigantic competition didn’t particularly wound the night’s other scripted shows.  FX premiered the final season of THE STRAIN at 0.62, down a tenth from the 2016 premiere, but up 0.13 from the season finale.  Starz’s POWER slipped just 0.02 to 0.74.  TNT’s CLAWS actually went up 0.06 to 0.47.  On Adult Swim (which airs in late-night and doesn’t directly compete), MIKE TYSON MYSTERIES rose 0.05 to 0.62, DECKER: UNSEALED was down 0.03 to 0.33, and APOLLO GAUNTLET fell 0.08 to 0.28.  On Showtime, TWIN PEAKS dropped 0.05 to 0.11, and I’M DYING UP HERE ticked up to 0.05.  A primetime SPONGEBOB on Nickelodeon was at 0.47 (and also aired on NickToons at 0.05/201K).  

On the unscripted front, sports led the way, with ESPN’s MLB game at 0.58, and NBC Sports Net’s NASCAR race at 0.55.  On Food Network, FOOD NETWORK STAR ticked up to 0.48, and GUY’S GROCERY GAMES was also up a tick to 0.28.  On Bravo, REAL HOUSEWIVES OF THE POTOMAC rose 0.04 to 0.48, and the season premiere of SHAHS OF SUNSET was at 0.45.  HGTV’s crowded Sunday line-up had ISLAND HUNTERS on top at 0.44/0.38, with the rest at 0.35-0.38.  On TLC, 90 DAY FIANCE fell 0.06 to 0.41, and SPOUSE HOUSE was up 0.04 to 0.22.  ESPN’s morning WIMBLEDON coverage was at 0.38.  On ID, AMERICAN MONSTER ticked down to 0.35, and ON THE CASE was down 0.02 to 0.32.  Spike’s BAR RESCUE was at 0.32.  On E!, BOTCHED lost 0.03 to 0.29, and FAMOUSLY SINGLE ticked down to 0.15.  

The KIDS CHOICE SPORTS AWARDS aired across the Nickelodeon networks, and complicated its own rating by the split between Nickelodeon and Nick At Nite at 9PM, with the following results:  0.39 for the Nickelodeon hour, 0.35 for the 34 minutes on Nick At Nite, 0.10 on NickToons, and 0.07 on TeenNick.
