Django Unchained (up $47 million overseas since last week) is starting to gain on Les Miserables (up $23 million overseas). Django is now only $29 million behind Les Miz in our worldwide projection. (Django leads domestically, while Les Miz holds a shrinking lead overseas).
A wide variety of films has grossed over $20 million this past week. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is up $26 million since last week (to $62 million overseas to date and over $100 million worldwide). On the more artistic side of the movie spectrum, The Impossible and Life of Pi rose $24 million and $21 million overseas, respectively, since last week. Both films have been much stronger overseas than in North America. The Impossible will soon cross $150 million worldwide, while Life of Pi is closing in on a stunning $600 million worldwide.
Better late than never, Lincoln and Flight had modest weeks overseas. Lincoln rose $18 million overseas since last week, bringing its overseas total to $33 million against a worldwide total over $200 million. Denzel Washington’s showcase performance in Flight generated $14 million overseas last week, pushing the overseas total to $22 million and a worldwide total of $116 million.
