THE SKED: “Smash” Moves to Saturdays

If there were any die-hards out there still nursing some flicker of hope that SMASH could survive its move to the basement of network television on Saturday nights, the ratings for its debut (which featured a fairly painful appearance by Liza Minnelli) snuffed them out.  Not only did Smash fall to its all-time low with a 0.5, but it did badly even in the context of its pathetic competition.  Smash was beaten by reruns of COPS, THE VOICE, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE and a new 20/20, and in fact just narrowly avoided being the lowest rated show of the night, barely ahead of a rerun THE MIDDLE.

In real ratings news, preliminary numbers have the primetime portion of the NCAA FINAL FOUR games at 5.1, a tick ahead of last year, while the night’s new SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE had a 2.7, lower than March’s Justin Timberlake episode, but still the highest-rated show on NBC last week that wasn’t The Voice.

Tonight’s network programming is highlighted by the ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS on CBS, with reruns on ABC and FOX.  The night’s biggest event, though–even though it won’t look that way in the ratings–is the Season 6 premiere of MAD MEN on AMC.
