FOX: The network used its late national NFL game as a springboard for the early premiere of 9-1-1 (a 2-part episode that concludes tonight), pushing it half a point above its previous series high to 2.3 before adjustment. Before jumping too high in the air, though, a couple of points of comparison: earlier this month, FOX did the same thing for a preview episode of the lower-profile REL, giving that show a 1.9 it will likely never see again. In addition, at the beginning of last season, the late NFL game gave a regular episode of THE SIMPSONS a 2.2, so the 2.3 isn’t exceptionable with that lead-in. The rest of the night was reruns at 0.9/0.6 (the latter a rerun of the REL pilot).
ABC: On summer finale night, CELEBRITY FAMILY FEUD dropped 0.3 to a season low 0.6, and 2 episodes of THE $100,000 PYRAMID were at season lows 0.6/0.5, compared to last week’s 0.7. The night started with a rerun AMERICA’S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS at 0.6.
CBS: 60 MINUTES fell to 1.1 from last week’s football-boosted 2.2. BIG BROTHER lost 0.4 to 1.3. Reruns followed at 0.5/0.3.
NBC: The preliminary rating for SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL was 5.7, down half a point from last week’s game.
The fall broadcast season officially begins tonight, with series premieres for CBS’s MAGNUM PI reboot and NBC’s MANIFEST. CBS is stunting the MAGNUM premiere with off-night season premieres of THE BIG BANG THEORY and YOUNG SHELDON. Other season premieres include THE VOICE and DANCING WITH THE STARS.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
