GLEE may only be a shadow of the phenomenon it was when it began 4 seasons ago (a 2.3 average this season, compared to 4.0), but it’s still a significant asset for FOX, especially among the younger 18-34 demographic, and it has enormous ancillary value on iTunes and elsewhere. So it’s no surprise that the network has renewed the show, and with a particularly healthy two-season order. Given the huge cast of Glee, which spent this season hopping between Ohio and New York storylines, the financial issues were probably sticky, which may account for why this renewal was announced after FOX re-ordered most of its other veteran series several weeks ago. The network is looking at a very stable 2013-14 season, with only one of its Tuesday half-hours and its Friday night currently looking open.
