So much for the excitement of May Sweeps. The NFL Draft on ESPN may not have helped, but an alarming number of network shows last night hit season and even all-time series lows.
FOX: Oh, how AMERICAN IDOL‘s fortunes have tumbled. Last night it hit an all-time low 2.7, down 0.3 from last week and behind not only the CBS comedies it faced but (at least in preliminary numbers) Scandal as well. GLEE was also down 0.3, to 1.8.
ABC: In final numbers, GREY’S ANATOMY tends to rise a bit and SCANDAL tends to drift down. So this may not have been the night that Scandal (up 0.2 from its last new episode 3 weeks ago to a season high 2.8) beat Grey’s (down 0.1 to 2.7). On the other hand, maybe it was. WIFE SWAP started the night with a season low 1.1.
CBS: Even though the 8PM sitcoms were enough to give CBS the night, it was a terrible evening for the line-up. THE BIG BANG THEORY was down a full point from its last new episode 3 weeks ago to a season low 4.2, and TWO AND A HALF MEN crashed 1.1 to a series low 2.8. The parade of series lows continued with 2.4 for PERSON OF INTEREST (down 0.3) and 2.0 for ELEMENTARY (down 0.1).
NBC: Bottom, it turned out, hadn’t yet been reached, as every show on NBC last night hit or tied a low. COMMUNITY was down 0.3 to 1.0, THE OFFICE was down 0.2 to 1.7, PARKS AND RECREATION was down 0.4 to 1.3, and HANNIBAL fell 0.4 to 1.0.
CW: Despite a much-hyped backdoor pilot episode for THE VAMPIRE DIARIES spin-off The Originals, Vampire wasn’t immune from the night’s malaise with a 0.9, down 0.1. Also down 0.1 was BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, at 0.5.
Everything is new on the networks again tonight, they hope to better effect. GRIMM airs its last Friday episode before moving to Tuesdays next week, and TOUCH returns to FOX for its (almost certainly) final few episodes.
