GREY’S ANATOMY, with its 16th season premiere, topped everything but football.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary live+same day key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
ABC: GREY’S ANATOMY was down 0.4 from last year’s 2-hour premiere to a still-lordly 1.5. A MILLION LITTLE THINGS was steady with last fall’s season premiere (on a Wednesday) at 1.1, and also steady with its Thursday premiere last January. HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER dropped 0.2 from last fall’s premiere to 0.6.
CBS: YOUNG SHELDON was expected to take a hit without THE BIG BANG THEORY as lead-in, and it did, a 0.6 plunge from last fall’s Thursday premiere to 1.0. THE UNICORN was thus down 0.8 from last fall’s 8:30PM show to 0.8 (still a good hold of its lead-in). MOM dropped half a point from last fall to 0.8, and CAROL’S SECOND ACT was down 0.4 from last fall’s MURPHY BROWN premiere to 0.7. The one piece of decent news was that the premiere of EVIL was steady with last year’s SWAT premiere at 0.7.
NBC: SUPERSTORE slipped 0.1 from last fall’s premiere to 0.8, but PERFECT HARMONY wasn’t a compatible lead-out at 0.5. THE GOOD PLACE was down 0.3 from last season’s 1-hour premiere to 0.7, and SUNNYSIDE was painful at 0.4. SVU dropped 0.4 from last year’s 2-hour premiere to 0.7.
FOX: The preliminary 3.9 for THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL was up 0.6 from last year’s parallel early number.
CW: THE OUTPOST ended its season at 0.1/0.1, steady with last week’s hour.
No new series premieres tonight, but WWE SMACKDOWN makes its move from USA to FOX.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 live+same day ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
