After 2 weeks of smash hit ratings, HBO has inevitably announced the renewal of GAME OF THRONES for a 3rd season. Its 1.9 rating in 18-49s for initial Sunday telecast isn’t quite as high as True Blood‘s gold standard, but considering the comparatively small number of homes with HBO subscriptions, it compares favorably to The Walking Dead and any drama on network television.
In other Sunday night cable news, Lifetime’s premiere of THE CLIENT LIST held onto all of its 0.9 lead-in from ARMY WIVES, and skewed a little younger, since it hit that 18-49 rating with about 300,000 fewer total viewers. At AMC, MAD MEN held at the previous week’s 1.0, and THE KILLING rose slightly to 0.6–particularly good news for the latter, since normally cable shows fall after heaviily-marketed season premieres, and one might have expected Killing to attract more than the usual one-time-only curiosity seekers. Showtime’s returning trio of NURSE JACKIE, THE BIG C and THE BORGIAS were all within a decent enough 0.23-0.27 in 18-49s.
Bringing up the rear for the weekend was Starz, where MAGIC CITY had a fairly wretched 0.12 rating in 18-49s. (But again, the show is renewed already for next season, so the numbers are academic–at least for now.)
