AFTERNOON UPDATE: WORLD SERIES GAME 1 ended up adjusted to 4.2, a bit below where we anticipated but still 0.6 above last year’s Game 1. Nothing else moved more than 0.1 from the morning numbers, but it’s noteworthy that THE TOMORROW PEOPLE edged up to 0.7, a more solid CW number, and since MODERN FAMILY went up and SUPER FUN NIGHT went down, the latter show, at 2.1, was barely over half of FAMILY’s 3.9. SURVIVOR and THE MIDDLE were also up 0.1.
WEDNESDAY CABLE was dominated by DUCK DYNASTY (A&E), which rose 0.6 to 3.5, topping everything in primetime but baseball and MODERN FAMILY. AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN (FX) continues to slide, down 0.4 to 2.1 (still tying the top-rated 10PM show on broadcast), after a 0.5 drop the week before.
EARLIER:
Against the World Series, some but not all of the competition faltered.
FOX: We estimate that in final adjusted numbers, the WORLD SERIES will rise to 4.4-4.6, which would be as much as a full rating point above last year’s Game 1.
CBS: It would seem to make sense that older-skewing CBS would suffer from the baseball competition, but while SURVIVOR set a new regular-episode low at 2.3 (down 0.3 from last week), CRIMINAL MINDS was even at 2.7, and the much-hyped 300th episode of CSI was up 0.1 to 2.1, although the episode itself was something of a bait-and-switch, since the “return” of Marg Helgenberger turned out to be a minute or two of fragmentary (newly-shot) flashbacks.
ABC: The downturn was more consistent at ABC. THE MIDDLE fell 0.1 from 2 weeks ago (it was preempted last week) to a season low 2.0, BACK IN THE GAME fell 0.2 and hit a new low 1.7, and MODERN FAMILY dropped 0.3 to a season low 3.8. Currently SUPER FUN NIGHT is up 0.1 from last week to 2.2, but it started at 9:31PM, so that may not hold. NASHVILLE was steady at 1.6.
NBC: REVOLUTION held at 1.4, but then SVU was way down from last week’s episode that featured Munch’s exit, falling 0.4 to a season low 1.4. The final episode of IRONSIDE dropped 0.2 to 0.8.
CW: ARROW and THE TOMORROW PEOPLE were both down 0.2, to 0.9 and 0.6. That latter number puts Tomorrow at the low end of what’s considered “good” at CW.
More baseball tonight, airing against new programming on all the other networks except 8PM on NBC, which has a rerun of The Voice.
