The Holiday Season at the North American box office is off to a fairly solid start in 2013. Over the past seven days (December 16-22), the top 10 films in the North American each day have totaled $193 million, a big 32% jump over the lackluster 2012 total over the same period ($146 million) and a more reasonable 7% above the multi-year average since 2002 ($180 million).
Certainly the record pace (mostly 2009 with the amazing run of Avatar) is not in the cards this year, but an above average finish is possible. We’ll update this throughout the next week and a half.
