Sunday’s numbers won’t be fully in until tomorrow, but bits of information are starting to arrive about some of last night’s event telecasts:
In its simulcast airing on 9 cable networks owned by FOX, COSMOS added 0.8 to its FOX broadcast score among 18-49s, giving it a 2.9 total. That’s a nice bump, but even with all 10 networks counted, it came in well behind the 3.6 for the ABC-only premiere of Resurrection. In total viewers, the 10-network number was 8.5M, compared to 5.8M for FOX alone.
TRUE DETECTIVE went out on a high note, scoring 3.5M total viewers in its initial 9PM telecast, plus 1M for the 11PM re-airing. Impressively, that 9PM run was up 50% from the 2.3M who watched the previous week’s episode live. And those numbers don’t include what was clearly a horde of people who watched the finale online, considering that the HBOGo server crashed because of high demand last night. (No 18-49 ratings yet. Also, no press release on the season finale ratings for LOOKING, which was never in True Detectives‘ Nielsen league, although that hasn’t kept it from a renewal.)
At some point, will networks stop believing that Lindsay Lohan’s notoriety will translate into big ratings? It was OWN’s turn to be disillusioned last night, as the premiere of its reality series LINDSAY had just 693K total viewers. By way of comparison, the last new episode of Real Housewives of Atlanta had 4M viewers, and Keeping Up With the Kardashians had 2.1M. The network didn’t provide overall Adult 18-49 ratings, but reported that in Women 18-49 it was at a modest 0.52.
