NIELSENWAR 2014-15: Housekeeping At NBC & CBS

The pick-ups are mostly done, so today was a time for the networks to clean up after themselves with some decisions on existing shows:

NBC canceled DRACULA and remains in negotiations on PARENTHOOD, with the big issue reportedly the network’s desire not just to order an abbreviated 13-episode season, but to guarantee each cast member roles (and fees) in just 9 of those episodes–a plan that wouldn’t just affect the cast’s wallets, but potentially the quality of the show.  Concluding this deal could be a mixed blessing for fans.

CBS renewed THE MENTALIST, reportedly for a final 13-episode season.  However, THE CRAZY ONES, FRIENDS WITH BETTER LIVES, BAD TEACHER, INTELLIGENCE and HOSTAGES weren’t so lucky–they’re all officially done.  The Friends cancellation is a mild surprise, because its ratings haven’t been all that bad on Mondays, and the speculation is that since CBS currently has only 8 comedies ordered for next season (although there’s still buzz that How I Met Your Dad isn’t dead), the network may cut back from its current 4-hours of comedy to 3 hours in the new schedule, which would also explain why CBS ordered so many new dramas while renewing almost all of its existing hours.

NBC leads the way on Monday morning with the release of its schedule (there may even be news tomorrow night), and CBS takes its turn on Wednesday.
