NETWORK UPDATE: No changes at all.
TUESDAY CABLE: Despite weeks of hype, TYRANT didn’t have much of a launch for FX with 0.6 (subsequent re-airings added 0.3 and 0.15)–and given its quality issues and lack of critical support, its arrow may not be pointing up. USA’s plight continues, with the season premiere of COVERT AFFAIRS in terrible shape at 0.4 (down 0.2 from last July’s premiere and down 0.3 from the November season finale), following a steady 0.5 for ROYAL PAINS. As detailed in today’s WORLD CUP SKEDBALL, the ESPN/ESPN2 simultaneous matches are watering down the World Cup audience, with the result being a lack of the big numbers we were seeing during the event’s first week. Yesterday’s ESPN games were at 0.8/0.7, with ESPN2 at 0.3/0.5. (Tomorrow’s US vs. Germany match, though, should overwhelm its ESPN2 competition.) Back in primetime, THE DEADLIEST CATCH (Discovery) grew by 0.2 to 1.2 and led the night’s cable originals. On ABCFamily, PRETTY LITTLE LIARS rose 0.1 to 1.0, while CHASING LIFE was at 0.5 for the 3rd consecutive week. (The network’s target demos told 2 different stories: in Women 18-34, the shows were close at 1.3/1.0, but in Females 12-17 LIARS dominated with 3.8 compared to 1.7 for CHASING LIFE.) On TNT, RIZZOLI & ISLES stayed at 1.0, while PERCEPTION dropped 0.1 to 0.6. THE HAVES AND HAVE NOTS (OWN) was up 0.1 to 1.0.
NBC paid a bit of a price for its Sunday stunt.
NBC: Remarkably, at 1.9 the rerun of Sunday’s AMERICA’S GOT TALENT (which ran that night to hurt the premiere of Rising Star on ABC) was the highest-rated show of the evening on any network, making one wonder just how elastic the AGT audience is, or whether the same 7M people or so just sat there for 2 hours watching the same show again that they’d watched 2 nights earlier. Still, the rating was down 0.7 from last week’s new episode (and down 0.2 from Sunday’s telecast). The rerun had a more serious effect on THE NIGHT SHIFT at 10PM, which fell 0.1 to a new series low 1.2, and was beaten by ABC in the hour.
ABC: With rerun competition on NBC, EXTREME WEIGHT LOSS gained 0.2 to 1.0. CELEBRITY WIFE SWAP was down 0.2 from its last original episode to 1.3, but still won its hour.
CW: FAMOUS IN 12 stayed at 0.2, 0.1 below the SUPERNATURAL rerun that followed it.
CBS: Reruns, led by NCIS at 1.1.
FOX: Reruns, highlighted by 0.8 for FAMILY GUY.
NBC launches another summer original tonight, the comic cop show TAXI BROOKLYN. CBS welcomes back another season of BIG BROTHER. On cable, WILFRED begins its enigmatic final season on FXX.
