WORLDWIDE STUDIO SCORECARD. Paramount got off the mat with the release of Transformers: Age of Extinction, pushing the studio over $1.0 billion worldwide for the year to date and into 5th place and now above Universal. Disney ($1.66 billion worldwide for 2014 to date) moved slightly above Sony ($1.65 billion) thanks to continued overseas grosses for Maleficent and some downward revisions for 22 Jump Street. 20th Century Fox remains at the top of the heap ($2.4 billion) with Warner Brothers ($1.9 billion) in second position.

YEAR TO DATE BOX OFFICE. Looking at North American box office, 2014 is now running 2% behind last year but still 1% above the average for this point the past four years ($4.672 billion). Over the same period, Hollywood films have grossed just over $12.3 billion worldwide when we add overseas box office.

(The most recent week’s numbers are based on weekend estimates, which are usually at worst a couple of percentage points off from the final weekend tallies.)

WORLDWIDE GROSSES BY FILM TITLE. Opening this week, Transformers: Age of Extinction enters the chart at #6 with a lot more overseas revenue to come. X-Men: Days of Future Past is now the #1 Hollywood film of the year in terms of worldwide gross, pushing Captain America: The Winter Soldier down to #2.
