NETWORK UPDATE: ROOKIE BLUE gained 0.1 to avoid a series low. The rest of the news was bad: HELL’S KITCHEN, GANG RELATED, and all the new episodes of UNDATEABLE were down 0.1 from preliminary ratings.
THURSDAY CABLE: On a night that didn’t feature much new original programming, Adult Swim’s LOITER SQUAD led the evening with 0.8/0.7 for its 15-minute segments. On Syfy, DOMINION was at 0.44, with DEFIANCE at 0.39. (Digging in a bit on the latter shows: both series do badly with young people, around 0.2 in 18-34s, but are genuine hits with men over 50 years old, in the 1.1-1.2 neighborhood. That’s a demo result more associated with networks like TNT than Syfy, and it’s unclear whether it’s the audience the network is looking for.) MARON (IFC) fell to 0.03, with companion show COMEDY BANG BANG at 0.01.
As the long holiday weekend got into gear, it was a bad night for the networks.
CBS: Although BIG BROTHER was the night’s highest-rated show, its 1.6 was down a very big 0.7 from last week’s Thursday premiere. Big Brother, in fact, was almost outrated by the night’s THE BIG BANG THEORY rerun at 1.5.
FOX: HELL’S KITCHEN held up better, although it was still down a significant 0.3 from last week to 1.4. GANG RELATED held onto last week’s 0.8.
ABC: Not a pretty night. BLACK BOX stayed at last week’s series low 0.6, ROOKIE BLUE fell 0.2 to hit a new series low 0.7, and NY MED dropped 0.2 to 0.7.
NBC: The quartet of UNDATEABLE episodes started with 0.5 for the rerun, then climbed to 0.7/0.7/0.8 for the new half-hours. The first two hit a new series low. All the Undateables were topped by a 10PM LAST COMIC STANDING clip show at 1.1.
CW: Reruns at 0.2/0.2.
NBC features the MACY’S 4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR tonight, and all the other networks celebrate the holiday with reruns.
