WORLDWIDE STUDIO SCORECARD. No change in the studio rankings this week with no studio increasing more than $100 million over the past 7 days worldwide. Fox’s modest gain this week comes mostly from the domestic potential for Let’s Be Cops and continued overseas grosses for How to Train Your Dragon 2. Disney’s weekly gain is mostly a function of overseas grosses for Guardians of the Galaxy. Paramount’s weekly increases is primarily a product of more overseas grosses for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

YEAR TO DATE BOX OFFICE. Looking at North American box office, 2014 is still running -7% behind last year and now -4% below the average for this point the past four years ($6.565 billion). Over the same period, Hollywood films have grossed almost $16.1 billion worldwide when we add overseas box office.
A reminder: we define the start of each year as the first Monday after New Year’s Day, and our year ends on the Sunday after New Year’s Day the following calendar year. (The most recent week’s numbers are based on weekend estimates, which are usually at worst a couple of percentage points off from the final weekend tallies.)

WORLDWIDE GROSSES BY FILM TITLE. Let’s Be Cops enters the 2014 worldwide chart at #48, The Expendables 3 at #57 and The Giver at #65. The latter two films have moderate overseas potential and should rise toward the level of Let’s Be Cops, which has very little overseas prospects.
