WORLDWIDE STUDIO SCORECARD. The studio rankings remain unchanged, and #1 Fox continues to do well, thanks to more overseas grosses from both Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and How to Train Your Dragon 2. The second best week worldwide belongs to #6 Universal, not so much because of the domestic release of As Above/So Below but mostly because of a very good week overseas for Lucy.
Scroll down for domestic and overseas grosses for each film individually so far in 2014.
YEAR TO DATE BOX OFFICE. Looking at North American box office, 2014 is still running -7% behind last year and -5% below the average for this point the past four years ($6.903 billion). Over the same period, Hollywood films have grossed over $17.0 billion worldwide when we add overseas box office.
A reminder: we define the start of each year as the first Monday after New Year’s Day, and our year ends on the Sunday after New Year’s Day the following calendar year. (The most recent week’s numbers are based on weekend estimates, which are usually at worst a couple of percentage points off from the final weekend tallies.)

WORLDWIDE GROSSES BY FILM TITLE. The November Man enters the 2014 worldwide chart at #76 and As Above/So Below at #82 in the always dreary Labor Day weekend. Guardians of the Galaxy is #7 of the year worldwide, but it is not finished marching up to the top of the chart, as overseas grosses continue to roll in.
