Welcome to November sweeps.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
CBS: The network launched its post-football Thursday… sort of. Even though it’s no longer the countrywide network of Thursday night football, its New Orleans and Charlotte affiliates both carried the game last night, which may lead to adjustments later today. For now, THE BIG BANG THEORY didn’t appear to make a triumphant return to Thursdays, hitting a season low 4.1 that was down half a point from last Monday’s airing. However, it did wonders for MOM, which reached a new series high 2.7. 2 1/2 MEN was also at 2.7, which was down 0.2 from last season’s premiere but up a heartening 0.6 from the May finale. THE MCCARTHYS debuted at 1.9, nowhere near last year’s premiere of THE MILLERS, and uncomfortably on par with where the canceled THE CRAZY ONES was on the parallel date last season. ELEMENTARY tied the same series low 1.4 it had for May’s season finale.
ABC: GREY’S ANATOMY was preempted for the 9 trillionth run (that’s an unverified number) of IT’S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN, which was down half a point from its last run at 1.7. SCANDAL nevertheless held last week’s 3.0, although with ELEMENTARY as competition, HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER lost 0.3 to 2.7.
NBC: THE BIGGEST LOSER lost 0.1 to a series low 1.1, and things didn’t improve after that. BAD JUDGE fell 0.1 to 0.9, and A TO Z dropped 0.2 to a disastrous 0.7, probably with not much of the alphabet left to come. PARENTHOOD was down 0.1 to 1.1, which tied its series low.
FOX: BONES fell a heavy 0.4 to 1.3 with BIG BANG back in the mix, and GRACEPOINT held at 0.8.
CW: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES has clearly seen its best days, down 0.1 to tie its series low 0.7. REIGN stayed at 0.5.
Halloween is likely to be more trick than treat for NBC’s GRIMM/CONSTANTINE combo, whose target audience will be otherwise engaged tonight. All the networks air their regular line-ups.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
