Midseason programming arrived with some promise.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
ABC: GALAVANT did a capable job of filling in for ONCE UPON A TIME with a 2.0 rating that remained steady through the hour (dipping to 1.9 in the second half-hour). It rose nicely from the 1.3 for its AMERICA’S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS lead-in. After that, though, things went downhill fast, as RESURRECTION could only half its lead-in, with the same 1.0 it scored with its last new episode, and REVENGE dropped 0.3 to a new low 0.9.
NBC: Audiences were apparently primed for the return of CELEBRITY APPRENTICE, which aired for the first time in nearly 2 years with a 2.3 (up 0.6 from that previous airing) and beat everything against it except FAMILY GUY. It also built quite well on its lead-in, a 1.3 for DATELINE.
FOX: Naturally, nothing on TV came close to the primetime hour of the NFL WILD CARD GAME, which is currently at 12.6, and which boosted THE SIMPSONS to a preliminary 4.6. BROOKLYN NINE-NINE is at 2.9, and after that, the NFL effect began to subside, as FAMILY GUY was at 2.8 (up 0.5 from its most recent episode) and BOB’S BURGERS was at 1.9 (up 0.6).
CBS: Without any football lead-in, 60 MINUTES dropped 0.9 to 0.8, and MADAM SECRETARY fell half a point to 1.4. THE GOOD WIFE was more stable, down 0.1 to 1.3, and CSI lost 0.2 to 1.2 (it had aired mostly out of primetime in the majority of the country for the past 2 weeks).
Tonight’s featured arrivals/returns include the season premiere of THE BACHELOR on ABC, and the returns of GOTHAM and SLEEPY HOLLOW on FOX, with an extra episode of CELEBRITY APPRENTICE on NBC.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year.

Sunday preliminary broadcast ratings: 60 Minutes and the CBS 7:00-7:30 half hour specifically inflated by 10 minutes of the end of Masters coverage from 7:00-7:10 pm (mostly the monumentally awkward and amazingly tense ceremony in “Butler Cabin,” where the Green Jacket is awarded).
