NETWORK UPDATE: The only changes from last week’s preliminary New Year’s Eve network ratings were extra 0.1s for both parts of NEW YEAR’S ROCKIN EVE and for the 8PM rerun of BLUE BLOODS.
Ratings in key demos for the Top 25 original cable telecasts (plus a few other lower-rated but noteworthy programs):
All the regular Wednesday cable shows were preempted, and New Year’s Eve was all about college football and holiday celebrations, which took up all of the day and night’s Top 10. Football dominated (all of it on ESPN), with 2.64 for the ORANGE BOWL, 2.24 for the FIESTA BOWL and 1.47 for the PEACH BOWL. CNN’s Anderson Cooper/Kathy Griffin festivities won the battle of cable holiday parties at 0.55, with BET next at 0.39 and FOX News at 0.26. HBO’s Jennifer Lopez special (at 0.15) wasn’t technically a New Year’s Eve special, but it served the same purpose.
