WORLDWIDE STUDIO SCORECARD. The 2014 Scorecard, updated with additional overseas grosses, has been updated below. The 2015 Scorecard will be introduced toward the end of January.
YEAR TO DATE BOX OFFICE. Looking at North American box office, 2015 (one full week young) is -14% behind last year and -13% below the average for this point the past four years ($0.191 billion). Over the same period, Hollywood films have grossed just under $0.492 billion worldwide when we add overseas box office (that’s +1% ahead of the comparable worldwide box office last year at this early stage).
A reminder: we define the start of each year as the first Monday after New Year’s Day, and our year ends on the Sunday after New Year’s Day the following calendar year. (The most recent week’s numbers are based on weekend estimates, which are usually at worst a couple of percentage points off from the final weekend tallies.)
