Amazingly, EMPIRE continues to climb.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
FOX: Defying conventional ratings logic, EMPIRE gained another 0.1 to hit a phenomenal new high of 4.7. The only hint of a cloud in FOX’s Wednesday sky is that the show doesn’t have much of a halo effect, as AMERICAN IDOL fell 0.4 from last Wednesday to 2.7, 0.7 below the parallel night last season despite the giant lead-out.
ABC: The good news last night was that BLACKISH bounced back a bit from its last try of surviving opposite EMPIRE, up 0.3 to 2.2. There was little movement in the rest of the schedule, as THE MIDDLE was down 0.1 to 2.1, THE GOLDBERGS remained at 2.3, MODERN FAMILY lost 0.1 to 3.3, and NASHVILLE gained 0.1 to 1.4.
NBC: THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA and SVU each rose 0.1, to a respective 1.1 and 1.4. CHICAGO PD, coming off its crossover with CHICAGO FIRE, dropped 0.2 to 1.4.
CBS: THE MENTALIST added 0.3 to 1.5, but CRIMINAL MINDS remained at its series low 2.0. STALKER made it a 3-network tie at 10PM, rising 0.1 to 1.4.
CW: ARROW lost 0.2 to 1.0, while THE 100 added 0.1 to 0.6.
Last Thursday, NBC debuted the first stage of its new Thursday line-up to underwhelming results, moderate success for THE BLACKLIST and a disastrous premiere for ALLEGIANCE. Tonight the network adds THE SLAP to the mix at 8PM. All the other networks are new, with the notable exception that both BIG BANG THEORY episodes, at 8PM and 9:30PM, are reruns.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
