Crossover episodes for sweeps are as old as the hills, but they still work.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
NBC: SVU and CHICAGO PD aired a crossover story, and the whole line-up was lifted, as THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA gained 0.1 to 1.2, SVU was up 0.1 to 1.9, and FIRE grew by 0.3 to 2.0.
ABC: The network aired an all-new regular line-up for the first time since January 13, although all but MODERN FAMILY were new on January 20. Compared to their most recent original episodes, THE MIDDLE and THE GOLDBERGS were steady at 1.8/2.0, MODERN FAMILY was down 0.1 to 2.6, BLACK-ISH was up 0.2 to 1.9 (but steady with its January 13 episode that followed a new FAMILY), and AMERICAN CRIME was up 0.1 to 0.9.
CBS: 2 BROKE GIRLS and MIKE & MOLLY had their last Wednesday airings (GIRLS moves to Thursdays next week, MIKE is currently unscheduled) and held at twin 1.6s. CRIMINAL MINDS fell 0.2 to 1.8, and CODE BLACK was up 0.1 to 1.3.
FOX: AMERICAN IDOL and HELL’S KITCHEN were each down 0.2 from last week, respectively to 2.1 and 1.3.
CW: ARROW stayed at 0.9, and SUPERNATURAL rose 0.1 to 0.8.
It’s a big night for ABC, which gets to say farewell to its low-rated hiatus shows and welcome back its ShondaLand trio of GREY’S ANATOMY, SCANDAL and HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
