NBC could have used Game 6 of the NHL Stanley Cup Final on Wednesday rather than Monday. The 2.0 rating the concluding game generated Monday would have doubled last night’s rating for the regular NBC Wednesday line-up (instead of bumping a much higher-rated America’s Got Talent out of its pattern Monday night). In any case, FOX was the only network above a 2.0 rating last night, with everyone else down around a low-1 rating for the night.
FOX won with two hours of So You Think You Can Dance from 8-10 pm (2.4 preliminary Adult 18-49 rating), down a touch from last week but continuing a downward trend for the reality show. The three-week Wednesday track for SYTYCD: 2.7– 2.5– 2.4 rating.
CBS is currently in second place on the night (1.3 rating from 8-11 pm), with Dogs in the City rebounding a bit to a still atrocious level (1.1 rating) and repeats of Criminal Minds (1.3) and CSI (1.5) actually building throughout the night. The three-week track for Dogs in the City: 1.3– 09– 1.1.
ABC is currently in third place (1.2 rating for the night). Repeats of The Middle and Suburgatory struggled to a 1.0 rating each, followed by an okay 1.4 rating for a repeat Modern Family, but a special Duets (on Wednesday because of Game 2 of the NBA Finals tonight) turned in a weak 1.2 rating from 9:30-11:00. The Duets track: 1.7– 1.5– 1.2– 1.2. (The first three ratings are for episodes in the normal Thursday time period, and the last is the Wednesday special from last night). No matter where it goes, it’s looking like a 1.2 rating from here on.
NBC struggled from 8:30 on. A repeat of Betty White’s Off Their Rockers started the evening with a 1.2 rating at 8:00, but a repeat of Up All Night sunk to a 0.9 and repeats of SVU stayed at the same low level (0.9 at 9 pm and 1.0 at 10 pm). The night as a whole averaged a 1.0 rating.
Viewers will return to the broadcast networks (to ABC at least) for Game 2 of the NBA Finals, Miami at Oklahoma City. Game 1 rose all the way up to a 6.9 rating in the official nationals for Tuesday, beating the 6.5 rating for Game 1 last year. Game 2 last year (also on Thursday — June 2, 2011 to be precise) also averaged a 6.5. So tonight’s rating should be close to the 6.9 for Game 1 Tuesday. ABC is certainly fervently hoping for Miami to get it together and tie the series at one game apiece, increasing the odds for a long series and even bigger ratings for a Game 6 or 7.
