From the Department of “Duh”: CBS has worked out deals with Ashton Kutcher, Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones to return for another season of 2 1/2 MEN. There had been reports that the cast and show creator Chuck Lorre wanted the new 10th season to be the finale, while CBS wanted 2-year deals, and they seem to have split the difference: the new deals are for 1 year only, but the season will not be announced as the “last,” allowing for the possibility of further renewals.
Men is still a valuable part of the CBS Monday line-up. The show survived the loss of Charlie Sheen, and although recent ratings haven’t been anywhere near the crazy numbers from September when Kutcher made his debut, April ratings in the high 3s aren’t far below the show’s 4.0 average last season with (and then without) Sheen. If, as is widely expected, CBS spreads its sitcom reach to a 4-sitcom Thursday in the Fall, Men will be an anchor of one of those nights.
