REVOLUTION – NBC – MONDAYS 10PM

WHAT IT’S SAYING:   Movie-sized spectacle from JJ Abrams and the director of Iron Man.

WHAT IT’S REALLY SAYING:  Jericho meets Dark Skies meets The Book of Eli meets The Walking Dead meets The Hunger Games (note the prominent bows and arrows) meets every other post-apocalyptic movie and TV show you’ve ever seen, with the dad from Twilight as the hero.  The CG looks great, but beware of Terra Nova Syndrome, where all the production values are in the pilot budget, and the series itself is lucky to have 5 CG shots per episode.  An extended dialogue scene could give you some pause about how the series will work when the spectacle is over and it’s time for storytelling.  And at this point, the climactic conspiratorial twist at the very end of the pilot is such a cliche that the bigger surprise would be if it didn’t have one.

GRADE:  B
