ABC is going to give GCB a try in the Sunday 9PM Desperate Housewives slot on April 8. The original plan had been to air a repeat Housewives that night, but instead GCB will air back-to-back fresh episodes 9-11PM. It’s not entirely clear how informative the test airing will be, because on April 8 not only will Once Upon A Time be a repeat at 8PM that will reduce its lead-in, but both CBS and FOX will also be in repeats.
GCB‘s ratings have so far been within a narrow range of 2.0-2.3, holding the Housewives audience fairly well (2.5-2.6 in the same period), but not showing any breakout potential. The April 8 result should suggest whether the show is capable of standing on its own. And if the experiment fails, at least the network will have burned off its GCB order that much faster.
