>A rare night of December originals on the broadcast networks Sunday night. The Sunday Night Football game between the Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints drew a 6.5 Adult 18-49 fast national rating from 8:30 onward, a number which we expect to rise to a 7.3 in the official nationals.

FOX enjoyed the NFL afternoon doubleheader with the Green Bay Packers’ last second field goal to defeat the New York Giants spilling well into prime time. The 7:00 half hour pulled a 9.6 rating (and that is certain to go up toward an 11 rating in the official nationals), while the 7:30 half hour (which featured the end of the game and The OT with the announcement of the BCS college football bowl pairings) scored an 8.3 preliminary rating. The 8-10 pm comedy block had some of the best ratings of the season, particularly for The Simpsons (which featured the voice of Joan Rivers).

ABC had its entire line-up back on, the first time since November 13. Unfortunately, each ABC Sunday program tied or set a season low. Once Upon a Time (3.1 rating) was the highest rated ABC show on the night, but it clearly was a season low (down from the 3.8-4.0 rating for each of the first four episodes). Desperate Housewives and Pan Am both set new lows for the season (each down one tenth of a rating point from the prior low), and America’s Funniest Home Videos tied its low for the season.

Sunday preliminary broadcast ratings: 60 Minutes and the CBS 7:00-7:30 half hour specifically inflated by 10 minutes of the end of Masters coverage from 7:00-7:10 pm (mostly the monumentally awkward and amazingly tense ceremony in “Butler Cabin,” where the Green Jacket is awarded).
