>FOX should be well above a 20 rating (we are saying a 21) when the official nationals are in tomorrow for 7-11 pm Sunday.  This is well above CBS’s performance on this night last year, when the game ended on time at 10 pm.  Last night, a thrilling overtime game went to about 10:35, and then FOX filled until 11:00 with post game coverage and an American Idol special was pushed until 11:00 pm-midnight ET.

               Nightly Primetime Average
Sunday         FOX    ABC    CBS    NBC
01.22.2012     21.0*  2.0    1.6    0.9
01.23.2011     2.4    1.3    16.5   0.8

FOX was given the gift of an overtime game in prime time Sunday between the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers. In the preliminary fast national ratings, the game ranged between a 17.8 Adult 18-49 rating from 8:00-8:30 ET (around halftime) to a 21.0 from 10:00-10:30 (mostly the overtime period).  The post game show in the 10:30 half hour averaged a 13.3 preliminary rating.  From 7-11 pm, FOX averaged an 18.7 rating, which should go up to around a 21 rating tomorrow when the time zones are adjusted (well ahead of the 16.5 rating CBS posted on this night last year with the AFC Championship until 10 pm and an original Hawaii Five-O at 10 pm).  No word yet on the special American Idol that aired after the game last night — it was pushed to 11 pm, outside of prime time and beyond the scope of the fast national ratings.

Despite facing a massive playoff game all night on FOX, ABC posted almost the same nightly rating as it did last week (2.0 rating versus 2.1 last Sunday).  Once Upon a Time again held up best of all, comfortably above a 3 rating in the 8 pm hour.  Last year on this night, ABC opted for repeat dramas against the AFC Championship and averaged only a 1.3 for the night:  America’s Funniest Home VIdeos (1.4), Extreme Makeover Home Edition (1.9), Desperate Housewives repeat (1.1) and Brothers & Sisters repeat (0.7).

CBS gave its dramas at 9 and 10 pm the night off, opting for repeat telecasts.  Original episodes of 60 Minutes and Undercover Boss took one for the team and set season lows.  Last year on this night: AFC Championship 7-10 pm (20.0) and Hawaii Five-O (5.6).
