>CBS was up a touch from last week, thanks to high ratings from the NCAA basketball tournament flowing into prime time. The bad news is that basketball ended at 7:18 pm, so the impact was not as substantial as if the game had ended around 7:30 or 7:45. The other broadcast networks were similar to last week. ABC’s Once Upon a Time held on to its position as the highest-rated Sunday series on the broadcast networks with young adults, but that comes with a big asterisk. Cable ratings are released later, and AMC’s Mad Men should snatch the top position later today.

CBS slid its regular schedule due to coverage of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament until 7:18 pm ET. From 7-8 pm, CBS won the hour with a 3.5 rating (18 minutes of NCAA and 42 minutes of 60 Minutes). Look for the 7:00-7:18 portion of the NCAA (when Kansas upset North Carolina for the final ticket to the Final Four) to average around 6 rating, while 60 Minutes will be somewhere around a low-2 rating from 7:18 on. From 8-9 pm, CBS came in a close second to Once Upon a Time with a 2.7 rating (18 minutes of 60 Minutes and 42 minutes of Amazing Race). From 9-10 pm, CBS fell to fourth place with a 1.7 rating (18 minutes of Amazing Race and 42 minutes of The Good Wife). At 10 pm, CBS moved up to second place with a 2.0 rating (18 minutes of The Good Wife and 42 minutes of CSI: Miami). Last year on this night: NCAA Basketball 7:00-7:17 (5.3), 60 Minutes (3.1), Amazing Race (3.2), Undercover Boss (3.2) and CSI: Miami (2.7).

Earlier in the afternoon, NBC certainly had visions of its PGA golf tournament spilling into prime time. Tiger Woods won for the first time in three years, and NBC was one weather delay or, even better, a sudden-death playoff away from decent ratings in at least part of the 7:00 pm hour. Alas, the weather was perfect and Tiger won going away. NBC experienced another rough Sunday with a 1.0 rating for Dateline at 7 pm and a new low for Harry’s Law at 8 pm (down to a 0.8 rating). Celebrity Apprentice delivered another 1.8 rating from 9-11 pm, matching a series low. On this night last year: Dateline (0.6), America’s Next Great Restaurant (1.3) and Celebrity Apprentice (3.0).

The Sked: SUNDAY Ratings
Sunday preliminary broadcast ratings: 60 Minutes and the CBS 7:00-7:30 half hour specifically inflated by 10 minutes of the end of Masters coverage from 7:00-7:10 pm (mostly the monumentally awkward and amazingly tense ceremony in “Butler Cabin,” where the Green Jacket is awarded).
