December 15 is traditionally around the last night there is any significant number of original episodes on the broadcast networks’ schedules and also the date when television usage starts to drop dramatically until bottoming out on Christmas Eve (which battles the night of July 4 as the least watched night of television of the year).

CBS won the night last night with a 2.8 Adult 18-49 rating from 8-11 pm.  Big Bang Theory was a repeat, although the 9 and 10 pm dramas were able to turn in the same rating as last week when a Big Bang original provided a much higher platform for the night.  Last year on this night, CBS took the opposite approach (original comedy at 8:00 and repeat dramas 9-11 pm) and produced a similar 2.7 rating from 8-11 pm:  Big Bang Theory (5.1), $#*! My Dad Says (3.3), CSI (1.9) and Mentalist (1.9).

The X Factor continues to drift down, setting a new series low.  Not a good sign as the series builds toward the end.  However, the 2.2 rating FOX received last night from 8-10 pm is still an improvement over the same night last year (1.4 from 8-10 pm): Bones (1.2) and Bones special (1.5).

ABC averaged a third place 1.6 rating for the night with two specials: Charlie Brown Christmas (1.8) and The Year with Katie Couric (1.5).  This marks a slight improvement over the mostly repeat schedule on this night last year (1.4 from 8-11 pm): Charlie Brown Christmas (2.0), Grey’s Anatomy repeat (1.3) and Private Practice repeat (1.0).
