>Another night of American Idol and another 30% decline from the same episode last year.  The other networks mostly went with repeats.

             Nightly Adult 18-49 Rating
Thursday     FOX    CBS    ABC    NBC
01.26.2012   4.2    2.8    1.2    1.4
01.27.2011   5.8    2.1    1.6    2.5

FOX again took first place with the second Thursday edition of American Idol and new drama The Finder, but Idol continues to under-perform.  The second Thursday of Idol is down 30% from last year, and last night’s number is down 5% from the first Thursday telecast (last year’s pattern: the second Thursday was down a scant 1% from the first Thursday).  The Finder at 9 pm bounced up again to a fairly solid 2.9 (thanks to facing repeat dramas on CBS and ABC).  This night last year: American Idol (7.7) and Bones (3.9).

With repeat dramas at 9 and 10 pm, CBS moved down to a 2.8 rating from 8-11 pm (from a 3.5 rating last week).  Big Bang Theory turned in a very good 5.4 preliminary rating (a tie for a season high), while Rob seems to be finding its level at a very decent 3.5 rating.  On the same night last year, CBS offered a full slate of repeats: Big Bang Theory (2.3), $#*! My Dad Says (2.3), CSI (2.1) and The Mentalist (1.9).

NBC sunk to a 1.4 rating from 8-11 pm (down from a 1.7 last week because it replaced The Office, its rapidly weakening but still highest-rated show on its night, with another 30 Rock episode).  The special 30 Rock episode at 9 pm turned in a very weak 1.9 rating, setting up the 9:30 repeat of Up All Night to fail.   Last year on this night NBC managed a 2.5 rating from 8-11 pm: Community (2.2), Perfect Couples (1.7), The Office (4.0), Parks & Recreation (3.0), 30 Rock (2.4) and Outsourced (1.9).
