>CBS took the night off last night, handing FOX a Tuesday victory.  FOX is finally getting its original episodes going in anticipation of tonight and tomorrow’s American Idol return.  Otherwise, the night was extremely quiet.  Tuesday is night begging for some rebuilding — too many 2-rated shows (or lower) taking up space.

             Nightly Adult 18-49 Rating
Tuesday      FOX    NBC    ABC    CBS
01.17.2012   2.9    2.1    2.0    1.8
01.18.2011   1.7    2.6    1.7    3.2

FOX won last night by default, with CBS entirely in repeats.  Glee tied a season low, while New Girl and Raising Hope were near season lows.  Still it was enough to come out on top on an evening really lacking any heat.  Last year on this night, FOX was the one in repeat mode:  Glee repeat (1.5) and Million Dollar Drop (1.9).

FOX Tues     High Low  1213 1220 1227 01.3 1.10 1.17
Glee         4.0  3.0  3.0  1.1R 0.7R 0.9R 1.1R 3.0*
New Girl     4.8  3.3  3.3  1.1R 1.0R 1.3R 1.3R 3.4*
Raising Hope 3.1  2.1  2.3  1.0R 0.9R 0.9R 1.0R 2.3*

With CBS out of the picture this week, NBC stepped into second place last night with a 2.1 rating from 8-11 pm, the same as last Tuesday’s number.  Last year on this night (Tuesday, January 18, 2011) NBC averaged a 2.6 rating: Biggest Loser (2.9) and Parenthood (2.1).

NBC Tues     High Low  1213 1220 1227 01.3 1.10 1.17
Biggest Loser2.7  1.9  2.7  —   1.0R 2.4  2.4  2.3*
Parenthood   2.2  1.7  —   —   0.7R 1.7  1.7  1.7*

What a difference a week makes for ABC’s 8 pm comedy anchor.  ABC cleansed itself by dumping Work It after two episodes (replacing it with a Last Man Standing repeat), and the Last Man Standing original at 8:00 responded by bouncing back to 2.6 rating, well off its series lows.  The repeat Last Man did an acceptable 2.0, while Celebrity Wife Swap and Body of Proof did their usual soft ratings.  The 2.0 rating for ABC last night is somewhat higher than the 1.7 on the same night last year: No Ordinary Family (1.8), V (2.0) and a special 20/20 (1.3).

ABC Tues           High Low  1213 1220 1227 01.3 1.10 1.17
Last Man Standing  3.6  2.1  2.2  1.3R 1.5R 2.4  2.1  2.6*
Man Up!            2.4  1.6  —   —   —   —
Work It            2.0  1.5                 2.0  1.5  —
Dancing Res        4.1  2.6  —   —   —   —
Celeb Wife Swap    2.1  2.1                 2.1  2.1  2.1*
Body of Proof      2.2  1.5  1.1R 0.8R 1.0R 1.5  1.6  1.6*

CBS repeats usually keep it in the game on almost any night, but last night’s 1.8 rating from 8-11 pm for three repeats landed it in fourth place.  Last year CBS cruised to a first-place 3.2 rating for the night with: NCIS (4.1), NCIS: LA (3.3) and The Good Wife (2.1).

CBS Tues     High Low  1213 1220 1227 01.3 1.10 1.17
NCIS         4.3  3.5  3.6  2.0R 2.1R 4.1  4.1  2.2R
NCIS: LA     3.7  3.0  3.0  2.1R —   3.5  3.3  1.7R

Unforgettble 2.9  2.1  2.2  1.7R —   2.6  2.1  1.5R
