FOX’s New Girl starring Zooey Deschanel is the clear standout so far this week.  At a 4.7 Adult 18-49 rating, New Girl’s series debut was the highest rated show on any network last night, rising 24% from its Glee lead-in.  This is an impressive showing from the freshman comedy.

On CBS, Unforgettable made its debut at 10 pm, winning the time period with a 2.9 demo rating (down 19% from its NCIS: Los Angeles lead-in, however).  But a win is a win, and a high-two rating is about what it takes to win most 10 pm time periods, when audiences often turn to their DVRs, switch over to cable, or just go to bed.

NBC struggled with the season premiere of Biggest Loser, stuck in the low-2 rating range from 8-10 pm, and winding up with a 2.1 for Parenthood’s second outing at 10 pm.

ABC had somewhat better results from 8-10 pm with the Dancing with the Stars special at 8 pm (Meet the Cast) turning in a 2.0 but the live Results show hitting a 2.8 rating.  This lead-in advantage was enough to allow Body of Proof (2.3 rating) to edge Parenthood for second place.

On The CW, the second week of 90210 and Ringer settled in under a 1 rating, officially becoming non-factors in their time periods.

Compared to the ShowBuzzDaily ratings projections, all programs on the broadcast networks are running very close to the projected numbers, with the notable exception of New Girl, which does have the potential for breakout status as the fall unfolds.  Look for New Girl to come down to a low-4 rating in coming weeks, which is still well ahead of forecast.
