>FOX is beginning to stabilize around a 5 rating on Wednesday night with American Idol.  CBS declined almost a full rating point from last week, but it had a good excuse: two-thirds of its line up was repeat programming.  And yet The Eye stayed in second place, above a 2 rating.  ABC also had a repeat excuse again this week, but NBC is not so lucky.  Boasting three hours of original programming, including two season finales, NBC averaged a barely-there 1.0 rating with Adults 18-49.

FOX’s American Idol cruised to an easy victory last night with a 5.0 preliminary rating, which probably will go up to a 5.1 in the official nationals (matching last week’s rating).  Last year on this night, American Idol also aired for two hours (7.7) — so this week’s Wednesday episode is down 35% from last year.

CBS was down from last week because of repeat dramas airing at 9 and 10 pm.  Survivor is even with last week, stuck at a season low.  Last year on this night: Survivor (3.1), Criminal Minds (3.5) and Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior (2.3).

ABC had another weak night dominated by three comedy repeats from 8:00-9:30 pm and another repeat of Missing at 10 pm (0.9 rating, down from a 1.3 last week for the repeat of the pilot episode).  Last year on this night: The Middle repeat (1.4), The Middle repeat (1.6), Modern Family repeat (2.1), Mr Sunshine repeat (1.4) and Off the Map (1.4).

NBC stayed stuck at a very bad 1.0 rating from 8-11 pm, even with last week.  The finales of Whitney (1.5) and Are You There Chelsea? (a series low 1.2) leave the scene without much notice, while week two of Bent averaged a 0.9 rating at 9:00 and 0.8 at 9:30.  Rock Center maintained a 0.8 rating throughout the 10 pm hour, up a few tenths over the past few weeks but still a very weak performance.  Last year on this night: Minute to Win It (1.2), Law & Order SVU repeat (1.1) and Law & Order SVU (2.5).
